LILY AMIS - MY STORY - MY MISSION
As a former war refugee in the eighties, I know exactly how refugees feel today. I also know what a difficult, impossible, and challenging journey they have ahead.
Once they arrive in their host country, rejection and indignity are just the beginning of a lifelong battle dealing with bureaucracy, discrimination, racism, psychological harassment, and social isolation by narrow-minded people in power, and condescending and inhuman laws.
If it wasn t for our suffering in silence for decades, I probably wouldn t have become an indie artist, writer, blogger, and lyricist. My writing journey began with writing and publishing my memoir DESTINATION FREEDOM, also known as THE STOLEN YEARS IN ZURICH.
My main goal from day one of writing my honest and painful memoir was to raise awareness about the awful and inhuman treatment of refugees in their adopted country. Meanwhile, I have published several books/ebooks in English, German, Italian, and Spanish.
Decades ago my mother and I experienced this failing system; first as asylum seekers, then as tolerated refugees with NO legal status or rights, and later as rejected foreigners . The whole process was a nightmare! From an F refugee status for ten years to a B status for five years. Then C permission for twelve years until we were finally naturalized. Valuable stolen years, frozen times, and precious seasons that NO one will ever give us back.
If it wasn't for my mums incredibly strong character and faith, we wouldn't have survived all the awful experiences and injustice. Only thanks to my mum's unconditional love and support, my creativity, and ambition, we survived the obstacles of law and evil people in life.
Pain, sorrow, emotional scars, and the feeling of hope and helplessness are my motivation for doing what I'm doing today for others.
I am and will always be the voice for the voiceless!
